Idoing 9-Zoll-Android 12-Radio-Headunit für Subaru Outback 5 Legacy 6 2014-2019

I recently purchased a 2017 Subaru Outback limited. It has the Harmon Kardon speaker system, navigation, etc. Even by 2017 standards that user interface and infotainment system that came stock in these Subaru’s was just awful. It was slow, would drop connection constantly whether using Bluetooth or USB. It had built in apps that were even more useless. And the graphics were just embarrassing. Worst of all, no way to have Apple CarPlay!

I went looking for aftermarket options. Most were just way too expensive and would have involved irreversibly altering the vehicle wiring and/or console. I stumbled into this iDoing system on YouTube and figured I’d give it a try. The install looked pretty easy, and if anything didn’t deliver on its promise I knew I could just put the old system right back in place.

I have never installed a car radio but I’m a pretty handy person and can fix just about anything. I’d say that technically this was an easy install, but there were some frustrating things (mostly Subaru’s fault), but nothing so bad that I’d deter a person from trying. Just make sure you allow yourself more time than you’d think. I spent a solid four hours. I had various things I had to trouble shoot, and figuring out where to run wires, etc just took time. I was methodical though because I wanted everything done right. Be sure to find videos on YouTube. Expect your results to vary somewhat as you might be surprised how Subaru has your cables run.

Over all, the display quality and sound quality are incredible. I don’t have an external amplifier but I noticed this head unit dramatically improved the sound quality from the speakers. The wireless Apple CarPlay connects very fast every time I get in the car. That’s really all I needed.

It also worked with my Subaru back up camera with no issues. Again, and improvement in image quality and it even retained the back up lines in the image. All sensor sounds come through really well too. Maybe I’ll make my own install video because I think you’ll find it handy … 🤔

Oh, I really like how great it looks in the vehicle. If I had one wish it would be for a tactile volume know. My wife got in and the radio was blaring and she was trying desperately to adjust the volume via the temperature control knobs! 😂 Thankfully the steering wheel controls were easy to program too!

Really nice fit in my Subaru Legacy. Very straightforward assembly and installation was intuitive.

Shipping got held up in California….other that, transaction went fine. Have not installed the unit yet.

Shipping was fast even though it was international. The head unit works excellently. The instructions are not great tho and I went through several Youtube videos to get it installed properly. Overall very happy.
